Bringing about social and environmental justice can be the biggest challenge we ever face. Few of us are trained for this work. We get thrown in the deep end when the common good is plundered and we stand to lose what we hold dearest. It’s a huge challenge to make sense of complex political circumstances and systems in order to chart a course towards a better world for everyone.
For 20 years, James Whelan (the Change Agency) and Jason MacLeod (Pasifika) have been leading education and training in social movements throughout Australia and internationally, supporting community-based groups engaged in this important work. During these years, we have developed and collected a treasure trove of training resources to support effective community-initiated campaigns.
First published in 2015, our Campaign Strategy training guide was the first in a series of six training guides. Our Community Organising guide followed in 2016 and the third instalment in our People Power Manual - on Civil Resistance - will be published later this year. Since its launch, the first edition has been put to good use by social and environmental justice campaigners in more than 20 countries. Graduates of our Community Organising Fellowship and other trainings have used the guide’s process guides and resources to train tens of thousands of community members to develop and implement campaign strategy. Informed by feedback and learning, we’ve re-published the training guide to incorporate several new process guides and resources.
Join us to celebrate the launch, hear how the guide is being utilised, and network with like-minded friends. Copies of the new guide will be available to purchase at the launch and electronically from tCA’s website.
The Sydney launch is hosted by the Sydney Alliance, long-term friends and allies who have contributed to the training guides and our workshops. The Brisbane launch is being co-hosted by the Queensland Community Alliance and Queensland Conservation Council.
Please RSVP by emailing James, ideally at least a few days before the launch. We hope you can come!
